Our Massage Work for Children's Charity - Non Profit Work

Doing massage work and being enabled to donate a percentage to charity is one of the most fulfilling ways I have had of working as a massage therapist over the years I have been practicing.  I have worked alongside a team of therapists at The Mount Haven Healing Room for quite a number of years now.  Until July 2016 we were working in the 'charity based' spa room at the hotel inspired and run by Orange Trevillion.  Orange set up the Therapy Room so that the hotels percentage of what was earned from the therapies at The Mount Haven went direct to her chosen charity supporting a School and Home for Children in Puttaprthi, Andra Pradesh, India to help abused children living in extreme poverty in India.  As a therapist I feel very honoured to be part of this work and being given the opportunity to fulfill therapy work at the hotel and for Orange to donate the hotels percentage profit to charity in order to support this cause.

A Letter from Orange about The Children's Project Charity, India

"15 years back when I was visiting India every year in the closed season I was very moved by the very terrible circumstances many of the street kids were having to survive in.  And I mean survive, not live.  It was not a childhood lived as we would know it.  Dirty, scrofulous, exhausted, hungry; they plied the streets to beg for money for either alcoholic or drug addicted or mentally challenged parents.  Buying them the powdered milk or biscuits they asked for if you refused to give money only meant they sold them back for a fraction to the same shopkeepers.  They probably sold the same tin of milk powder 20 times a day. I used to take them and buy a meal and make them sit and eat it to make sure it didn't go to their parents or handlers.

I got a phone call later that day from a friend.  She asked if she could tell me about a home and school being run by some American friends.  I was very impressed.  They were brought up in their own religion, Hinduism and with that a knowledge and love for all faiths and all peoples.  Safe, well fed and educated.  A home with love all around them.  It grew from 4 children originally to 32 and every year I visited and saw their progress and little bright faces.  I will never forget knocking on the door when I arrived yearly to great glee and laughter and love. So from that day I met these children, we decided that all profits from the Spa at the hotel would go to help fund the care of these kids.  And they have done us proud.  Most have grown up now.  Many of the oldest have jobs with Ana insurance in Banglalore, the younger ones at college or university. Maheshwari is studying in Dublin and I've visited her twice now and continue to help her expenses.  2 of the other girls are at University in California. Other friends from around the world also have been supporting the project for years.

We also used the funds to help a Tibetan community of monks with many orphans in South India and paid for medical camps in tribal villages.  I went out on these a few times and what an eye opener.  We do not know how lucky we are in many respects'   Orange Trevillion, 2017

One day I hope to work in a similiar capacity raising money through my massage work for a Children's Charity.
